Go where I go! See what I see!

Authors, artists, friends... there are a million ways to waste time being unproductive online. Here are some of my favorites!

Some of my favorite authors

Neil Gaiman

My favorite-y favorite. He writes on a level that astounds me, taking "genre" work and turning into literature. Of course, after you've read Gaiman, you'll realize there is no such thing as genre. There will be only two kinds of stories, those that move you and those that don't. His latest book, Fragile Things, is a great collection of short stories!

Chuck Palahniuk

Do yourself a favor. Buy a copy of Chuck's book Haunted. Or choose the Raymond K Hessel chapter from Fight Club. Choose a chapter from Lullaby, any chapter. Take it someplace with a friend or two. Someplace creepy. Read the stories out loud to each other. Marvel at the way the spoken word can move you emotionally, viscerally, physically. He's good. Damn good. And I'm not just saying it because he sent me a Power Rhino, a necklace, and a very nice letter.

China Mieville

Dark and moody. Painstakingly detailed. Amazingly inventive. Ahead of his time. Destined to become a leader in the new school of weird fiction.

Max Barry

He's funny. He's wacky. He claims to have the only website with little pictures of his head on it. But I've proven him wrong. And I've also just shilled for him and his books, so it's almost like Max planned this whole thing out...

Danny Wallace

Simply put, Danny's insane. After reading his books, you're likely to think "I could have done that! I should have done that! He's getting paid for That?!" Danny seeks challenge. Challenges like controlling a small cult that he started that ballooned into a real cult (JOIN DANNY!). Or challenges like saying "yes" to everything...Everything... for a year. Or starting his own country. It almost makes me wish I was British.

Some of my favorite artists

Exploding Dog

I don't know what it is about his art that moves me, but I find it amazing in its simplicity. Very evocative, subversive, meaningful and cute at the same time. Plus, he likes clouds and monsters. And it's interactive! Someone has nicely compiled a little "greatest hits" collection here.

Archangel Studios

These are the guys who created the insanely good comic series The Red Star. I met up with some of them at Comic Con this year, and they're got big things in the works. HUGE things. Get on the bandwagon now so you can be extra cool when this thing blows up!

Daryl Cagle's Political Cartoon Index

The insanely thorough index of political cartoons about the hot topics of the day...

Friends on the web

Adam Meyer

Born to conquer. Built to destroy. Homepage of my best friend, check it out!

Meyer Bros. Productions

This combined manic genius trio of Mike, Adam, and Zack are making short films and taking the world by storm! Dueling clowns! Dog men! Grown men in diapers! Check it out!

fz24.com

The one, the only, the mighty Michael Meyer. No, not the Shatner-Mask-wearing homicidal maniac from the movies (that's Meyers). No, this Michael makes thoughtful, award winning films and is destined for greatness. That's right. You heard me. Thoughtful.

Flawless Fitness

My friend Melody is a wonderful singer and musician. Check her out! She exercises too! Why not hire her? You know, you've been looking a little soft around the middle lately...

Jenny Sue

Jenny and Rick just had a baby! Will the cats adjust? Drama!

Help the monkeys! Get friends to help the monkeys!
They would help you if they could.

Learn About the Monkeys!

Education is fun. There's a Crocodile Hunter. Why isn't there a Monkey Hunter? And why isn't it me?

Curious George

The monkey who became a pet. The pet who became curious. The primate who defied an empire. Or, just angered the Man in the Yellow Hat.

Ape-O-Nauts!

Brave primates who died for our hubris. Oh, the cruelty of 1950s scientists. The monkeys will have their revenge someday! Until then, pay your respect at this “Vietnam Wall Memorial” style tribute to the fallen monkeys of science.
